Cryptostorm VPS anyone?

Freewheeling spot to chew the fat on anything cryptostorm-related that doesn't fit elsewhere (i.e. support, howto, &c.). Criticism & praise & brainstorming & requests for explanation... this is where it goes when it's hot & ready for action! :-)

Cryptostorm VPS anyone?

Postby htilonom » Sun Jan 11, 2015 5:41 am

Hello,

As advised by @cryptostorm_is, let's start a nice discussion about if it would be good to have Cryptostorm VPS service. I love Cryptostorm VPN but I feel VPS instance would be even more justified for lets say $10 a month.

You could even offer two VPS services:

- one VPS for network reconnaissance, NOT hacking. Just for gathering info with tools like nmap or even Nessus.
- VPN + VPS offer. Why not have both for $10 a month.

How many of yous would be interested in such offer? Please share your security views on this as well!

This is just an idea, i'm already using dirt cheap VPS's online but it would be cool to have it with Cryptostorm flavor.

Cheers!

Wouldn't mind one for emails...

I'd prefer they just stick to doing one thing and doing it well, vpn is complicated enough.
IMHO- (mythical?) extra time would be better spent exploring openbsd/libressl migration for the existing system- this would pre-empt many security issues that hit linux.

As tempting as this idea might be there are numerous reasons why they should not or even why it makes not sense at all (at least this moment).

I'd be the fist one to rent a server hosted inside grazes cookie jar, protected by pjs furry friends and that runs on manure provided by dfs magical unicorns but I don't see this happen anytime soon. Even though out of beta CryptoStorm VPN project is far from being "completed" (it's more like a never ending process anyway) and still high maintenance. There are also numerous projects in the making like Stormlink and Stormphone. I bet if you add up the hours of sleep deprivation of all the staffers combined you'd have to sleep until 2025 to catch up.

I think they should stick to VPNs for now, although this idea could be considered for the future.
Rum, obviously.
