cryptostorm darknet | Corporate Seppuku of Cryptocloud | rebirth
Πάντα ῥεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν μένει | Everything flows, nothing stands still.

We - the team who launched Cryptocloud in 2008 - have watched the “VPN industry” grow from the wild-eyed dreams of crypto-activists like ourselves into an everyday staple of online life. Along the way, there's been highs - seeing serious crypto protect good folks worldwide from tyranny - and lows - broken crypto still being sold to unsuspecting buyers. From nothing, we've seen an ecosystem of network privacy services come into being. Then came Edward Snowden. With his courageous blow against tyranny changing the landscape forever, it is now time for the next chapter to begin.
Now, the threat landscape out there is more complex, more dangerous, & more serious than anyone imagined. Even us. Nobody really set themselves up, in this “industry,” to defend against attackers like the NSA. Yes of course, we've done our best to deploy good tech, professionally managed: to avoid predictable risks whilst defending our customers, Indeed, we're justifiably proud of our unblemished record, for more than five years, in that regard. That said...
There's simply no practical, safe way to “evolve” a company created in the pre-Snowden era into a viable tool for post-Snowden protection. Instead, to provide real protection, one must build a new network from the ground up - bare-metal thru opensourced client code - to face today's authentic threats. That new framework of protection must needs include not only sharp tech but also corporate structure, team dynamics, financial process… the works. To do less is to put customers at risk, knowingly and recklessly. That, we will not do. Instead, we embrace a new model: the genuine darknet.
Cryptocloud is no more. The team that designed, built, managed, & improved that groundbreaking project now makes the choice to end it with its perfect record of customer protection intact. This is the team that pioneered “corporate seppuku” in defence of customers in 2008, long before Lavabit & others found it a necessary tool. We've always stood firm in our commitment to the privacy seppuku pledge - no surprise, as we created it.
We choose that option now, rather than carry forward legacy decisions & legacy risks into the post-Snowden world. No, we've not received FISA orders or any other tangible demands as such… but eventual deployment of such kangaroo court frippery is inevitable for any serious provider of serious network security: delivering privacy for the 99%, deploying real crypto for real people. We are such a provider, and the proverbial writing is on the virtual wall; it only remains to read the message, meditate on it, and prepare a vigorous response. This we have done, and this we now do.
Today, we announce the cryptostorm darknet: Cryptocloud reborn. The old network is being wound down; customers may pivot forward, with the team, & receive our full support & assistance every step. Further, a limited number of invites for new customers will shortly be issued (although priority goes to former Cryptocloud customers - naturally). Procedural details available at evolve.cryptostorm.org.
Everything flows… one joins that flow, or one becomes mere friction in the stream. Our team today sheds the well-worn skin of Cryptocloud. We speak through action this simple truth: the tools & techniques of years past are pathetically unsuitable against today's potent threats. More is needed - much more. Our team has imbued the industry with a unashamedly stubborn, unstinting, loyal, customer-centric ethos: we set the bar for what it means to put customer loyalty & protection first. Some have risen to that challenge; others have fallen miserably short. No matter. What's needed is not improvements to the “VPN industry” - what's needed, now, is a new one entirely. This, we catalyse via our work on the cryptostorm darknet.
Now we set forth the next iteration, the rebirth, the inception of a new industry. Now we put our expertise, experience, competence, & skills in service of the cryptostorm. Now, we flow forward. Now, we become something new: battle-wizened, time-tested, shorn of false expectations & imbued with the bracing draught of well-justified paranoia. Now, we step up to the challenge of today - and leave behind all weak links of the past.
Cryptocloud is no more - the cryptostorm darknet rises in its place.
“I love all things that flow.”
