constantly reconnecting | RESOLVED

Postby spotshot » Sat Nov 23, 2013 8:54 pm

since last night, openvpn will not stay connected, sometime
connection last half hour, other times 1 min.
the widget does work better however I can't give up
that much of my cpu.

the only way I can reconnect is to close openvpn and reopen
to connect.

I have the same issues with openVPN for Android for two days. The connection was VERY unstable, reconnected several times until it ceased to work completely.

[s]Now it is a bit better but it still reconnects without any obvious reason.[/s] It's still horrible and practically unusable.

If I am not mistaken I sent a log file to tech support yesterday. I hope they can read something useful from that.

Hmnrg. I wonder if I should ring the alarm... but it is just for when the whole network is down if I'm not mistaken.

If one person more is reporting issues I will ring the alert anyways because it is practically unusable for some people...

I too have had similar connection issues. I'm using TunnelBlick openVPN. I've been connected with no problems for hours, but also had reconnections every few minutes.

The tech ops team is looking at this reconnection issue currently.

It does appear that a selection of members are having an issue related to premature reset of DHCP credentials. It's somewhat tricky as this is not universal and thus debugging has been slower than usual.

Additionally, we are testing internally several adjustments to client configurations to increase resilience in the event DHCP leases terminate during a sessions as a result of network anomalies between the client and the cryptostorm exitnode clusters.

If anyone else is seeing these reconnect issues this weekend, PLEASE let us know in this thread - and most importantly let us know what OS and connection method you are using.

Thank you,

~ cryptostorm_ops

I took the liberty to highlight all reported OS and clients so Tech_Ops can easier gather the requested information.

@Rider: Please report OS and Client, too.

I had at least one reconnect but thats about it.

Looks like tech_ops has worked their black magic and secret rituals to calm down the otherwise restless ghosts of disconnects and endless resolving issues.

And the problems are back. (At least with Android and Arne Schwabe's openVPN for Android.)

Indeed, it seems to be fixed again. I was completeley unable to reconnect for at least 15 minutes, so I just switched to airplain mode and decided to try again later. My PC was not affected at all...

I haven't seen issues on my android, Desu. Maybe try clearing cache and dalvik cache. and see if it gets fixed? as it may be an issue in ur ROM itself. may I ask which ROM you are running?

Windows 8 x64. It's up and down and now speeds are bad. I get 6-7 Mb/s.

A fresh install of AOKP.
But looking at what people are reporting here it is a very inconsistent problem that maybe affects only certain people at certain times.

That's what a twitter post and tech_ops answer suggests anyway if I understand it correct.

I'm running latest nightly of CyanogenMod 10.2. the only problems I've witnessed were specified and cleared up by the team.

Yes, it's very strange. Right now it isn't disconnecting me but the connection is basically dead. I ran a speed test and half way through it just stopped downloading. As I said: No disconnects. It just stood there and waited for packets to arrive. :eh:

I hope they get this stuff sorted out quick because in a couple of days I need to switch my whole family to CS and they are already annoyed that I will temporarily put them on a Canadian IP. These disconnects and performance drops will exceed their limit of acceptance for sure and I will get annoyed to death by calls that blame me for "breaking the Internet".

Ok now it's gone for good. Anyone else?

EDIT: And back... but with poor performance.

EDIT 2: And gone again. Hmrg...

Let's just say the connection is VERY unstable...

Had a constant reconnect going on for about 5 10 minutes. has since resolved itself.

Ok, I'm back from my academic sojourn and coordinating with the tech ops team to see what they've been up to wrt these speed/reconnect issues. I've been getting sporadic reports of some pretty intensive performance-tuning work being doing, but I don't know the details.

Today's developer scrum mostly involved synchronisation of the new German exitnode cluster - as I'm a bit out of the loop, I didn't pull the team aside to review these issues from this thread... but I'll get current on this in these early morning hours, so I can help coordinate the work of updating on current progress and so on.

I will say that a quick glimpse at the rough throughput graphs show major jumps in total network usage... like, major jumps... since I last looked a week ago. No idea if this is enough to actually bump up against physical capacity constraints - I suppose it's possible, but seems unlikely.

Also, I heard one of the tech ops folks discussing some DHCP parameter tuning/bugs in the scrum last nite... that is likely related to the reconnect issue, and I'll dig into the logs of daily scrums to see how that all fits together.

Wow - good to be back! :-)

We're marking this thread as "resolved," as it appears to have been settled during recent upgrades to the Montreal exitnode cluster and concomitant work done on the auth system more broadly.

Thank you,
