France DNSCrypt Server

Postby MOQ888 » Sun Mar 25, 2018 9:46 am

Chased my tail for a day on this ... CS Win Widget was working fine then after I installed/uninstalled VirtualBox it refused to connect. VB installs some weirdo networking device so I thought that might have been the problem, but no.

Uninstalled Widget, reinstalled Widget, same - as the connection was being established the Windows Network icon would say "No Internet" and the connection would fail. CCleaner Registry cleanup didn't help either.

Attempting to connecting to US West, US South, same result

This usually means something is wrong with your DNS settings.

I tried different ISP connections, same errors, so I didn't think the ISP was blocking.

Anyway, for some reason was looking at Options/Security and noticed it was defaulting to CS France DNSCrypt Server. I thought ... let's change it to Secondary LA and BAM! it connected.

Then I tried the France Secondary, then Seattle, and they worked too.

Maybe some problem on the main France DNSCrypt? I'm happy to leave mine set to Seattle.

@OP

A quick test (if Windows has a telnet client - I have no idea if it does) is to open a command line window and do this:

Code: Select all

telnet 212.129.46.86 443

If you get a response, it should look something like:

Code: Select all

Trying 212.129.46.86...
Connected to 212.129.46.86.
Escape character is '^]'.

I'm having the same problem except now the secondary France DNS server isn't working for me either.

Connected to Canada West DNSCrypt but a lot of other servers on the list seem to be rejecting a connection.

What's the go?

yes, Windows does have a Telnet client!

Managed to telnet to the IP/port specified and it came up with a blank screen, no responses such as the esc char, and when I hit [Enter] Telnet closed. Got the same with 8.8.8.:53 so presumably it is "responding" but maybe something else behind the scenes is preventing the Widget connecting to that server.

@thread

Download the latest widget from the main site (3.15.0.186), make sure you uninstall the older version first. Also, follow this thread.

Thanks, 3.15.x widget loses the selectable DNSCrypt droplist but has been connecting cleanly since uninstalling 3.13 and installing 3.15. Had to select "Enable DNS Leak prevention" but that was fine too.

So ... connects cleanly - YES, sadly as observed by others, speed degradation is still a problem.

However, TY to all who have been working so diligently on these issues, much appreciated.
