Please three character search terms on the forum

Postby sysfu » Wed Jul 29, 2015 9:24 pm

I'd like to search the forums for three letter technical terms like 'dns' and 'i2p' however currently only four letter or greater terms are allowed. Can the board sysadmin please allow searching for three letter terms?

search fix in testing - feedback requested

Postby cryptostorm_admin » Thu Jul 30, 2015 7:25 pm

This three-character thing is somewhat hard-coded into the parameters of the database backend, but we've done a bit of fiddling to enable alternative search functionality which - in theory - will work around this annoying limitation on search. That three-character limit is annoying and not something we're actively choosing to implement, so if the switch in search functionality doesn't solve the problem we'll go into the source and do a couple mods to get rid of it directly.

In either case, please do report whether the changes have resolved the issue so that we can mark the bug closed, or continue further into a fix that solves the problem effectively. And thanks for reporting this - it's been something of a bother for quite some time but tends to slip down the priority scale as other items pop up and thus has not been properly addressed previously.

Regards,

That's a hell of a surprise... I mean, good - glad to hear it works as expected.

Confirmed that three letter search terms are working now, thank you.

Also, if there's any way to move the relocate the search box from the bottom of the screen to the top, that would be helpful too.
