HOWTO: buying access tokens w/ other cryptocurrencies

Postby cryptostorm_team » Tue Jul 30, 2013 12:29 pm

The Cryptostorm project team pioneered the acceptance of Bitcoins for VPN service, back in 2011. Indeed, we were close readers of Nakamoto's original paper laying out the distributed-blockchain architecture of the first cryptocurrency to ever succeed in achieving wide adoption, and we've participated in the community discussion of wider implications brought forth via this method of publicly authenticating private transactions, without central bottlenecks.

Since then, we've been strong supporters of all viable and non-scammy cryptocurrencies - there's strength in diversity, and we're happy to be part of the movement away from centrally-controlled, easily-manipulated fiat currencies. Most all the new cryptocoins have strong privacy attributes (but remember folks, Bitcoins are not anonymous!), and all are free from the easy grasp of authoritarian governments.

Naturally, we're continuing this approach to things as we move forward to the cryptostorm darknet, i.e.. Cryptocloud 2.0.

Look in this thread, in the following posts, for details on the various alternative tools available for use in purchasing network access via cryptocurrencies. Not sure about how all this stuff works? No problem; let us know, and we can point you at educational resources or help you step through the process ourselves. Once you do it a time or two, the whole thing flows pretty smoothly - but it helps to have an experienced guide to explain things. We're glad to do it!

Finally, if you've requests for new payment capabilities, feel free to post a reply here and we'll look into them. Most useful is a pointer to the merchant side of things - so we can get our hands around what we need to do to accept the payments, ourselves. There's really not any that we've ever flat-out rejected; it's always a question of how complex it is to handle them as part of our overall customer support framework. The more info you provide us on that matter, the faster we can get up and running - thanks.

purchase tokens with non-BTC cryptocurrencies

Postby cryptostorm_team » Mon Oct 14, 2013 4:33 pm

In addition to accepting Bitcoins via a pleasantly low-drama interface (courtesy the folks at bitpay), we're happy to support more than a dozen additional cryptocurrencies for token purchases (courtesy the folks at Vircurex). The full list of supported currencies is...

    Anoncoin
    Digitalcoin
    Devcoin
    Freicoin
    Feathercoin
    I0coin
    Ixcoin
    Litecoin
    Namecoin
    Novacoin
    Ppcoin
    Terracoin
    Primecoin

We'll be posting transfer instructions for each of these currencies here, in this thread, shortly. If you're keen to grab a token with one of the above-listed, let us know with a post in this thread & we'll make sure that transfer address gets generated asap!

I've split off the Tagcoins posts into their own separate thread, in the tokens subforum, to make them easier to find & hopefully encourage additional discussions :-)

Hey! Folk. Any updates on this? I know its not easy to deal with 100 altcoin payments, yet.

For anyone interested in paying with non Bitcoin cryptocurrencies, I suggest using Shapeshift semidecentralized exchange to convert your coin and deposit them into the Bitpay Bitcoin payment option that Cryptostorm supports natively at Cryptostorm.

Shapshift does not store your coins and asks no questions nor does it require logins. This coin goes in that coin goes out, that's it.

Shapeshift is usually fast enough that you can probably just send it from ShapShift to Cstorm directly. isntead of moving it to your wallet and then to Cstorm etc. Though not sure if that is the case with big purchases, but anything under $100 is I would bet fine.

Cheers!
