Why does my Swiss Server Show as NEW JERSEY IP Address??

Postby Confused » Fri Apr 08, 2016 7:57 am

I use DNS leak test sites (many of them) and many, many, many sites to check my geo-location, IP location, etc. and all of them are accurate to my cryptostorm VPN (swiss) except for 1.

This site tells me I'm in Mount Laurel, NJ and gives me a very long (IPV6 possibly?) IP address.

This is confusing to me, and there's an airforce base close to the supposed Mt. Laurel location.. How do I know my traffic isn't coming through there somehow? Why is it not telling me a swiss IP like all of the other, often more detailed IP tools?

I am using Tunnelblick OpenVPN by the way..

Here's the site where I'm having this problem. https://www.whatismyip.com/

that site isn't the best for that, try ipleak.net :-D

Nevertheless that "long ip" you're talking is kind of troubling me, can you post a picture or maybe check that your tunnel device tap/tun for the ip's that are being pushed by it, and them check the ethernet/wifi device to see what ip's are there?

Still a word of advice, disable IPV6 network wide, it will leak your real position, don't forget that CS is ipv4.

In my wife's Windows10 I went to the network manager and manually edit all network devices and remove the ipv6 feature.

Hi,

click on "VPN Details...", navigate to the config you wish to connect to. Click once to select the config, eg "cstorm_Frankfurt", now look at the right side of the Tunnelblick screen and click on Settings. Make sure that "Route all IPv4 traffic through the VPN" and "Disable IPv6 (tun only)" is enabled.

I recommend ipleak.net too and dnsleaktest.com

it seems to be that it's my IPv6 address, the one that shows on that site is the same number listed as my IPv6 in my network settings. I'm on a Mac and there's no setting in Tunnelblick to disable IPv6, and when I use terminal to enter the command to stop IPv6, it disconnects my CS VPN.

I'd like to be sure this isn't spilling my location.

In fact, it IS my IPv6 leaking, which I just read about. I also read that ipleak.net doesn't actually detect IPv6 leaks. I did, however find several sites that do detect it while I'm connected to the VPN.

Isn't there a way to hide this? It's upsetting that it's visible, it defeats the purpose of the VPN in my opinion. I don't have a setting to disable IPv6 in tunnelblick, but I do have the "route all connections through IPv4" selected. My mac has no setting for disabling IPv6.

This sucks. Does CS offer IPv6 protection? Is it a higher cost possibly or what? I can't see this leak being a good thing. I've checked a bunch of unrelated IPv6 leak sites and they're all giving me the same address - mine.

:(

1. Applications > Utilities > Terminal

To determine what are all of your Mac's network interfaces are, issue the following command:
networksetup -listallnetworkservices

To disable IPv6 for wireless, issue the following command: networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi

to disable IPv6 for Ethernet, issue the following command: networksetup -setv6off Ethernet

To re-enable IPv6, use -setv6automatic

Make sure to use the latest build of Tunnelblick. There should be a setting such as described above.

Also use the official Tunnelblick Support Forum. The developers are very responsive and helpful.
