cstorm speedtest results & speed-tuning discussions

Postby Tealc » Thu Aug 07, 2014 5:51 pm

A long time ago, in the begging of aDSL the common problem in my country was bad download speeds, and false propaganda by the ISP's.

With that in mind I made, for a school project, in Delphi, a Windows app to help figure the REAL internet download speed.
This original app was completely in Portuguese, and today I changed that to English to be posted here.

The app is very simple, it connects by FTP to the host from a list that you can choose and them for 20s tries to get a stable connection. You can remove the 20s limit and let it download to the Windows temp directory the file you select to see what's the real download speed of your computer.

This app brought back some wonderful Delphi memories :-D

Hope you like it.

App is signed with my PGP key.

I have used the tool you've kindly provided.

Using the closest node to me (UK) my average speed was 3.35MiB/s with a spike of ~8MiB/s a second in. When not connected to CStorm I have my full 12.2MiB/s bandwidth available.

Is there anything I can do to improve this? I'm on Windows but the results are similar cross-platform.
