Slow connection after upgrading to widget 3.12

Postby general007 » Fri Jan 05, 2018 1:42 am

I recently upgraded to widget 3.12.
My VPN speeds have been really slow.
Nothing else has changed except upgrading the widget. The speeds were fine before upgrading.

This is the most recent speed test.

This is the log from the widget.

@OP

1. What's the speed of your "naked" link?
2. Which version of Windows are you running?
3. Could you try another exit node which is geographically close to you and report the speed you get?

Many thanks. :)

Sorry I should have posted that information.

1. I have a 150 Mbps download speed with 15 Mbps up.
2. Running Windows 7 64 bit.
3. I've tried different nodes and still don't see any changes in speed.

Thanks

@OP

Do you have another device you could test the VPN connection on - perhaps a phone or tablet? It would be good to try to eliminate your Windows install as a possible culprit.

So, I'm having the same issue.

Naked connection 100Mbps with ISP. With Cryptostorm off I get speeds of 98+ with various online speedtest websites. Once Cryptostorm is on I get 1-5Mbps connection speed with every server I try. I'm on version 3.12.

Windows 7, Firefox, IE & Chrome used.

I recall speed dropping occurring after we moved away from Narwhal 2.22.

@thread

I notice that both of you are running Windows 7. Is there any chance one of you could run Windows 8.x or Windows 10 in a VM (using Virtualbox or Hyper-V) and see if you get the same issue with Widget 3.12?

Cheers. :)

Installed Cryptostorm on my Windows 8 laptop and got 480kbps down, 310 kbps up on Canada West. I did get 7.02Mbps up and 3.36Mbps on Dusseldorf (which is the fastest Cryptostorm speed I've seen so far since the move from Narwhal).

Speed without Cryptostorm is 93+ though.

Also, I'm unsure if Windows 8 is what you wanted with your message. If it isn't I'll work on acquiring Windows 10 and run a test. Please let me know.

@Bob

For these kinds of tests it's good practice to use the node geographically closest to you. Dusseldorf has a 1Gb/s network port, not sure about Canada West.

The fact that the slowdown is happening on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 points to a misconfiguration in the widget - Widget 2.22 not having this issue is only serving to reinforce the notion that Widget 3.12 has some kind of bug.

So, what happens now with this supposed bug?

@Bob

I've made staff aware of this thread. Hopefully they will return here with some feedback relatively soon. :)
