hello world, newbie questions

Postby vpn_newbie » Thu Aug 10, 2017 11:00 am

Hello VPN people, my first post, and I am a noob,
but I can copy and paste like a pro.

yesterday I got my 1 year cryptostorm vpn service (heeeey!!)
and I have couple of questions:

can I set vpn on my router, so all computers use vpn?
If so, how?

I have home server, can it be reached from outside world?
If so, how?

The 1 year plan says I can have 4 devices, does that mean I can use one for my router, and another for my parents (they live across the town), and another for my job laptop, and last one for my android phone?
And what happens if I use my job laptop and android phone when I get home, where I set up vpn on my router?

Some of this questions, or all, might be dumb, but better ask than sorry...

Thank you

@OP

1. Yes, depending on your router and the software it runs.

2. Yes, you would use port forwarding on your router so that you can contact your server from the Internet.

3a. Yes
3b. You would use WiFi for them and you wouldn't need to start the VPN on them. They would be protected by the VPN tunnel on the router.

Thank you for your answers, I did a lot of reading over the weekend, and I decided that i'll have 2 routers, one for my server, and new one for cryptostorm vpn service.
I have already installed dd-wrt, but i'll get into details in my new post, hope to see you there.
