Doesn't work at all with redbull.tv. I tried with AirVPN instead and all good so there is definitely something wrong with CS..

ok there was a space at the end of the token; lesson learned on that but redbull tv still doesn't work.
Other users on the IRC chat say it is working for them.
I I disconnect from CS or use other vpn it works

any suggestion much appreciated

Code: Select all

We have a central authentication back-end, so if your token 'works' on one server, it will work on others
(unless cryptostorm.nu indicates: 'That token has reached the maximum number of sessions.').

redbull.tv isn't a reference for testing CS connections. To verify if you are connected, consult logfiles or visit: cryptostorm.is/test.

The fact that redbull.tv works on some servers and not on others could be the result of geo-blocking.
Any errors/messages in the latter case?

yes token error was my bad because of a space at the end, silly me and my apologies.

however It can't be geo blocking because I tried without cs (same country server) and it worked

@OP

It could be geo-blocking or simply exit node blocking. Maybe some CS exit nodes have been blacklisted.

Damn :( I tried FR and NL so far.

Do exit nodes change IP from time to time ?

Actually back to square one, not a single server working with the site now; not even voodoo.
Other users reported on IRC that it works for them.
I don't believe redbull would blacklist all CS servers.
@parityboy Can you please look into that ? can other users confirm if the site is working for them ?

@3lf

I've just checked the site and the streaming video doesn't work for me either. Chances are the actual video is coming from a third party content provider and maybe some CS nodes are indeed blacklisted.

So looks like with the help of support we found a solution. At the moment redbull works. Maybe some nodes are blacklisted but I have only tried one so far.

Turns out tunnelblick was not changing my DNS in OSX
In my understanding the VPN was also modifying the DNS but apparently it was not because when I went into the OSX network preferences the DNS was still assigned to my router.

apparently Tunnelblick does not change DNS and that's where I got confused because I used to use AIRVPN before and their client was modifying the OSX DNS automatically. Maybe there are other people in my case that are not fully protected.

I hope this helps others

The above reasoning isn't entirely correct. Redbull.tv will not work without trackers and other 'malicious stuff'. The only two deepDNS servers that have trackers enabled are: 46.165.222.246 and 46.165.240.171

Also DNS servers are assigned on the level of network connections/adapters. So one should check the DNS servers that are used by the tun adapter; or use ipleak.net (or similar) when connected to CS in order to verify that Tunnelblick isn't changing to pushed DNS servers (after removing the manual addresses stated above of course).

HI Fermi

Can you explain more or point me where I can find more info on the difference between those DDNS tracker enabled on 46.165.222.246 and 46.165.240.171 VS normal CS DDNS pushed by the VPN ? I notice that the web is a lot smoother now that Im using those new DNS. Am I compromising myself in any serious way ?

I know https://github.com/cryptostorm/cstorm_d ... olvers.csv for DDNS list but can't see the new ones there. Is there a page with everything ?

In OSX network configuration I have the followings:
DNS server set to "46.165.222.246" and "46.165.240.17"
Search Domain set to "Open VPN"
Ipleak shows both DNS above. Now I understand tunnelblick modifies search domain and not DNS server field and DNS server takes precedence ? not sure of the difference between both..

Thank you

Got it thanks @parityboy, so it is ad blocking at DNS level but the article does not say if those two DDNS Im now using are the same but just without the crapware filtering ? Am I still benefiting from all other CS DDNS techs like DNScurve and DNSchain?

Im not bothered by ad/crap blocking since Im really happy with JS Blocker for that but I'd like to be sure Im still using DNScurve and DNSchain

PS: the article link https://github.com/deepDNS/TrackerSmacker is 404

@3lf

Yes, DNScurve and DNSChain are active on all of the nodes, along with TrackerSmacker (which is disabled on the German nodes).

Thanks @ParityBoy; I guess that closes my question on this.

If I may suggest to create a DNS directory page to include all alternatives (like "46.165.222.246" and "46.165.240.17") as well as regular DNS nodes and technologies enabled for each that could help future users and debugging.

Long live uncensored, private and more secure internet :) Thanks to the CS team ! Maybe one day Im good enough to switch from user to contributor too :p

Actually found those DNS there; they are the frankfurt DNS: https://github.com/cryptostorm/cstorm_d ... olvers.csv
But there is no column to say if trackers are enabled

What's the reason why DNSSEC is not activated anywhere; security concerns?

@3lf

That's actually a good suggestion - a Y/N as to whether TrackerSmacker is enabled or not. As for DNSSEC, I suspect the main issues are infrastructural, but if df pops his head in, he'll be able to elaborate further. :)
