Newbie can't connect w/ Ubuntu 16.04

Postby nom4d » Fri Apr 07, 2017 5:40 am

Hello, I have spent hours trying to make work this service, but I am unable. I have Ubuntu 16.04 and OpenVPN 2.3.10 x86_64.

I do the following:

1.- Import the .ovpn file adding the 3 lines to avoid DNS Leaks.
2.- Insert the Hashed token, and the certificate called CA2.crt from the forum.
3.- I connect from the 'network applet' and I get a new (correct) IP.
But:
4.- My true DNS's are leaked and I can't access tor, i2p, etc.

What can I do?

@OP

For the Tor and I2P stuff, can you do "nslookup forum.i2p" or "nslookup 3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion", and post the results?

For the DNS leaks, I suspect that your dnsmasq configuration isn't being updated properly. Can you post the contents of the following files:

/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head
/etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/dnsmasq.conf

Thanks. :)

Thank you for the reply.
nomad@tomahawk:~$ nslookup forum.i2p
Server: 127.0.2.1
Address: 127.0.2.1#53

** server can't find forum.i2p: NXDOMAIN

nomad@tomahawk:~$ nslookup 3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion
Server: 127.0.2.1
Address: 127.0.2.1#53

** server can't find 3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion: NXDOMAIN

# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 127.0.2.1

/etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head is empty.

I think I have resolved the problem with DNS leaks after installing DNScrypt-proxy.

@OP

Thanks for that. Can you post the contents of /etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/dnsmasq.conf?

Hello, thanks for your help parityboy. I don't have the file "dnsmasq.conf" on my system.

In fact, "/etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/" is a empty folder.

Is supposed to be here?

Thank you again!

I have SOLVED this. The problem was a bug in the dnsmasq package, this one:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1636395

Fortunately, someone has made a quick patch and now everything works!!
