Just started using cryptostorm, kinda new to VPNs but fairly tech-savvy. I'm having some trouble with torrents not seeding, so far I've killed about a day trying to figure this out, it's time to seek some help..
So I get pretty solid torrent DL speeds (1-2MB/s) when connected but for some fcking reason no upload at all. I've been attempting to seed two torrents all day and uploaded absolutely nothing while connected to the vpn. One of them is a legit linux torrent which I tried seeding while off the VPN and was able to upload, but on the VPN nothing. This has been the case at two separate physical locations (admittedly served by the same ISP, but don't think that matters), so at this point I feel like it is likely something to do with my local machine's configuration.
I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 with the OpenVPN cli, have been connecting to nodes via tcp. I've tried transmission, qbittorrent and deluge clients all with the same result. I noticed the "connection status" thing at the bottom of qbittorrent is yellow when I'm on the VPN ("No direct connections. This may indicate configuration problems"), but green when I'm off and have the appropriate port forwarded on my router.
Should I need to forward any ports on my router to torrent over VPN? Do my torrent packets go to and from the cryptostorm server on the same port as all my other traffic, and then get routed to the appropriate port of my local machine upon arrival and decryption?
If anyone has any ideas at all on how to fix/debug this I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
