Issues messaging within Skype

Postby bricky149 » Fri Jan 09, 2015 6:18 pm

I brought up an issue a few days ago with p_j which affected messaging within Skype. What's happening is whenever I send a message it could take up to 10 minutes for them to receive it and take around 90 minutes(!) for me to receive theirs. I have had to resort to my phone since it's not on CS.

p_j has researched into it a bit and has found similar issues have been reported on the Skype forum.
Time desync: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-a ... rue#M82996
Connection settings: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-d ... ue#M299812
As well as this as a possibility: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-a ... 49#M106967

In my case I do not use UPnP, I am using port 18760 w/ 80 and 443 unticked, and I am not using a proxy.

Could you use something a little more open source than Skype? Skype is awful.

Any SIP provider would do...

I said it over IRC, I know I'm being naughty using Skype and I'm aware it's horrible but I have 90+ people on my contacts list who do not have/want to use SIP. I have Jitsi/Ostel on this machine but with nobody to use it with (and has been that way for a while).

Also, Skype is nowhere near 'open'.

Okay, we've established you must use Skype.

Have you tried an alternative client as in something like Pidgin (For windows / linux / mac) which can log into Skype.

Also are you using Cryptofree or do you have a paid token?

Aleph token holder. Only Skype can be used with Skype, SkypeKit doesn't work anymore (for Pidgin, etc. to work Skype must be installed).

I have nothing new to bring on to solving this issue, but I would like to say that from the moment Microsoft bought Skype and merged their Messenger App and Hotmail with Skype it's a total crap, even the video quality is worse, and don't get me started with this "Dual login/Merged Hotmail account" it just sucks big time, if you login only with Skype e don't get Messenger users, if you login with Microsoft Account you get all the contacts, including double contacts for everyone like me that had a Skype account and a Messenger account.

As normally is with everything Microsoft touches, now it's total crap :-(

Yup, I can feel the love Skype gets from you guys. :P

But yeah, I've experienced a similar (if not the same issue) occur in qTox. Tox is a P2P network for secure communication and is currently in alpha state. It makes me believe the issue might be to do with incoming connections but since I'm not experienced in this area I'm most probably wrong.
