Re: ASUS-WRT Merlin - OpenVPN Client

@belowzero One thing I noticed when setting up pfSense for Cryptostorm is that even though the exit node pushes its DNS server down to the client, this data is not applied to the general DNS settings when the VPN tunnel becomes active, so if I specify Google's DNS server, that's precisely what the ...

Re: [pfSense] Transparent Darknet Access

@Fermi OK, I have a better sense of what is going on here. For seamless access to I2P and Tor websites, you have to create a Domain Override. However, when creating the override, you MUST specify the IP address of the DNS server sitting on that particular exit node . Alternatively, you can specify ...

Re: Serious Drops and packet loss South node

@thread Well I tried using the IP address of an exit node (as opposed to the FQDN) to see if I could get past the DNS resolution issues - made no difference, apart from the entry in the log. Nov 25 01:36:44 vilnius nm-openvpn[2933]: [server] Inactivity timeout (--ping-restart), restarting Nov 25 01...

Re: Serious Drops and packet loss South node

@Khariz

I'm starting to wonder...is it a configuration issue on the exit nodes, or are they under some kind of attack? And if it's an attack, why CS and not (for example) AirVPN or PIA?

Re: Serious Drops and packet loss South node

@Khariz

I'm not. It's ping frequency values, not MTU. This issue affects all of my connections on both Linux and Windows. I love CS, but if this isn't resolved soon, I'll have no choice but to go elsewhere. :(

Re: Serious Drops and packet loss South node

@thread After digging around in another provider's forums, I found a link which may provide a possible solution. This link seems to suggest that the retry values must match on both the client and server configs. If df or Fermi could pop their heads in and give us some working values for us to test,...

@OP

I assume by "auto-pay", you mean PayPal. Double check that the email address registered with PayPal is actually valid. Also check that the token email isn't disappearing into your junk mail folder.

Re: Serious Drops and packet loss South node

@thread UPDATE #3 After having updated OpenVPN on two other VMs to version 2.3.13, I can report the following: On the Italian node, the connection stayed up for 17 mins. On the Danish node the connection stayed up for 1hr 19m. In all cases, "inactivity timeout" seems to be the culprit. I'...

Re: [BleepingComputer] UK Passes the Most Extreme Surveillance Law in the History of Western Democracy

@sm1th Indeed. However, banning the use of encryption in general would kill online banking and other sensitive services overnight, and the banks won't stand for that. Specifically banning VPNs will have the business community up in arms. No doubt "the powers that be" are looking at it tho...

@NYOB Is "Narwhal" the latest client? Might it be worth giving a beta a try if there's one floating around? EDIT I decided to capture some logs to see what would happen when my own connection dropped and yup, the same issue. This is on Linux Mint 17.3 KDE. Nov 19 22:02:16 vilnius nm-openv...

[BleepingComputer] UK Passes the Most Extreme Surveillance Law in the History of Western Democracy

The law passed yesterday by both UK legislative houses (the House of Commons and the House of Lords), and officials expect the Royal House to sign it into law by the end of the year. Here is just a small list of all the new surveillance regulation included in the IP Bill's approved version: ⋅&...

@OP

a) I don't know, hopefully staff will pop in and answer.

b) No. If you opt for a subscription via PayPal, obviously it will do an auto-rebill, but for card purchases it doesn't.

Re: Correlation Attacks

@goki299 The attacker would need to be sniffing packets "either side" of the exit node, and even then it would be difficult if other users on the exit node are torrenting as well, since the connections from other torrent peers on the public Internet are effectively multiplexed into a sing...

Re: Serious Drops and packet loss South node

@Krin

It sounds like there's a routing issue between you and the South node; it appears to be reinforced by the fact that Khariz appears to have no issues. Can you do a traceroute and post the results here?

Thanks. :)

Re: Serious Drops and packet loss South node

@OP Looking at that image, I'm inclined to agree - the (possible) giveaway is the large ping compared to the rest of the trace. Having said that, I visited the Ubiquity.IO website and saw nothing re: microwave links. It could be that the routing out of the DC uses Ubiquity.io for transit and that n...

Re: Torrents no more working

@OP If it cannot resolve the FQDN of a given exit node, how is managing to discover its IP address, connect to it and bring up the tunnel interface? I'm not familiar with unbound so I can't help you with that...do you have a firewall running and is Google's DNS permitted to be accessed through it?

Re: Torrents no more working

@OP I've been downloading (and uploading) torrents on Cryptostorm since they launched in Feb. 2014, and there's never been an issue. There is no policy in place to actively block torrents on any of the exits. Can you give us some more info regarding your system (OS, torrent client etc)? I'm finding...
