@OP

The way the CS network is set up, customers are already firewalled off from each other. However, it doesn't hurt to use iptables wherever your VPN connection is initiated from. You should be using it anyway as a "kill switch" if the VPN connection drops.

@OP I think I see the issue. In your iptables rules, switch out 127.0.1.1 for 127.0.0.53 (both lines). 127.0.0.53 is the address that your local dnsmasq is listening on. Re: very odd event while using the VPN

@OP The purpose of a VPN is to encrypt data between your Internet connection point (PC/phone/tablet/router) and the VPN exit node. This has the effect of "going dark" on your ISP - they can only see that traffic is going between your router and the VPN exit node, and that the traffic is e...

Re: widget v3

@justintime Most Linux users know enough to handle their security issues in terms of firewalls, leaks etc. Not only that, but also consider that those security features are in the widget because...Windows. However, you do have a point: as desktop Linux becomes more popular, that popularity will be ...

Re: Torstorm

@kapu

In a terminal do

Code: Select all

nslookup 3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion

@kapu

Not that I'm aware of, but the use of DeepDNS should be transparent to you, once connected. You may have to enable resolution of .onion URIs in your browser of choice, but outside of that it should Just Work.

Re: OpenVPN android Issue

@OP

I see from this post that you are using Mint. In a terminal do

Code: Select all

echo -n <token> | sha512sum

This will be the cleanest way to get a correct hash without any cut & paste browser shenanigans.

Re: Torstorm

@kapu,@DeepDarkBaguette Firstly, what browser are you using and on which platform? If you are using Firefox, did you edit the config to permit .onion domains? If not, got to about:config , and do a search for onion . There's a setting called network.dns.blockDotOnion . Set this to false . If this d...

@Togijak

Have you tried Arne Schwab's OpenVPN for Android, rather than OpenVPN Connect?

Re: very odd event while using the VPN

@OP On your second point, port 5223 is officially the IANA registered port for XMPP/Jabber protocol. It may be that macOS is using this for push notifications. That itself is not an issue, what is of more pressing concern is that the system is able to route the packets outside of the VPN tunnel - y...

Re: widget v3

@df

Why are you still posting MD5 signatures for the widget? Would it not be better to deprecate it and replace it with SHA-256, if you still want to provide 3 hashes?

Just a thought. :)
